why (not how) I became a FLEX finalist (my raw opinion)
- I wasn't attached to the outcome. That means I didn't ACTUALLY care if I got in or not.
- I was brutally honest in my application essays.
- I reviewed all of my life experience for the past 2 years.
- did an in-depth analysis of my personality, including major strengths and weaknesses, more importantly, how these characteristics have formed in me.
- started early. I started my Round 1 application as soon as it opened.
- I asked myself why I do what I do now. not only how it benefits me, but also how it contributes to the society and how it helps me fulfill my academic or creative potential. for example, I didn't JUST write "I like dancing". I wrote "Dancing is a profound passion of mine, which stems from a childhood joy of performing and sharing my energy on stage. Dancing for 10 years have shaped me into a disciplined, open, and expressive person I am today"
- I know WHY I want to participate in the exchange program. It's a lot deeper than just visiting America and celebrating Halloween. Personally, exchange year is a unique opportunity to grow as a person, face life challenges that'll make me stronger, and contribute to the international understanding, particularly between Kazakhstan and the US.
if you're curious about this, I'd be glad to answer your questions🙌🏻
