My latest comments on the Kazakh government’s nuclear referendum, which will be held tomorrow:
“Shalkar Nurseitov, director of the Almaty-based Center for Policy Solutions think tank, also criticized the government's outreach.
"The government shows no interest in public awareness about risks of an NPP," he said, "and it is using old propaganda means: with supporters given more opportunities to promote the idea, while political opponents are given no opportunity to talk about these risks in the state-owned media."
Nurseitov alleged the project would result in massive delays and cost overruns or even environmental disaster as "the current political classes cannot guarantee this project's success because of corruption, lack of accountability and political impunity for previous failures."
